Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is responsible for providing quality psychiatric evaluation and treatment of patients per protocol as permitted by license and under the supervision of the CMO, in collaboration with a physician. The provider will coordinate with other behavior health and primary medical providers and support care management within the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) integrated model.

Essential job functions:

  • Provide clinical services as defined at the Community Clinic or through sites designated for the provision of health care services by the Clinic
  • Use current evidence-based practice, research and clinical knowledge to improve patient outcomes and reduce complications.
  • Formulate behavioral health treatment plan and manages acute and chronic mental health needs within Primary Care Mental Health model of care.
  • Provide treatment to clients with drug/opioid addiction.
  • Utilize all Clinic resources to improve patient outcomes, including Behavioral Health Consultants, Patient Educators, etc.
  • Provide assessment and medication consultation for primary care and behavioral health providers at for patients with complex behavioral health, developmental, or substance disorders.
  • Order laboratory and other diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained.
  • Practice within the scope of competency as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Arkansas and meets Board requirements for licensure.
  • Cooperate with administrative duties such as: credentialing, clinic certifications, medical staff development, and representation within the community.
  • Enter clinical notes in the patient's medical record accurately and in a timely manner
  • Participate in Quality Improvement practices in the clinic, e.g. chart and peer reviews.
  • Meet or exceed minimum productivity expectations.
  • Adhere to the core values of Community Clinic and reinforce with staff and the community.
  • Maintain continuing education at board-required levels.
  • Adheres to applicable regulatory guidelines and laws, including but not limited to HIPAA/HITECH, CLIA, NCQA PCMH HRSA and OSHA.
  • Other duties related to the Behavioral Health program as assigned.

Role Specific Essential Skills/Competencies:

  • Psychiatric Assessment and Diagnosis: Evaluates and diagnoses mental health, substance use, and developmental disorders.
  • Medication Management: Prescribes and monitors psychiatric medications safely and effectively.
  • Integrated Care: Collaborates with primary care and behavioral health teams to coordinate care.
  • Evidence-Based Practice: Applies current research and best practices
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records and follows regulatory and licensure requirements.
  • Substance Use Treatment: Able to Assess and treat patients with substance use disorders.
  • Autonomy/Collaboration Balance: Able to perform autonomously and exercise independent judgment. Also able to consult with Physicians when appropriate.

Required qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health NP master's or doctoral program
  • Licensed to practice in the state of Arkansas
  • Hold a current appropriate DEA number

Preferred qualifications:

  • Board Certification as a PMHNP-BC
  • 1+ year of experience as a mental health practitioner
  • Experience in an FQHC, Community Health, or Ambulatory Care setting
  • Bilingual ability in English and either Spanish or Marshallese
