Fleet Maintenance Manager

Under general direction of the Assistant Vice President, Energy and Infrastructure, manages vehicle maintenance, repair, and replacement of DFW rolling stock, to improve readiness and reduce operating cost. The Fleet Maintenance Manager will provide direction for functional garage supervisors, including personnel safety practices and technician training. The position is responsible for fulfilling the Airport's strategic objectives for Fleet net zero carbon emissions.

Principal duties and responsibilities include:

  • Planning, directing, and providing management of a division of 35 staff responsible for lifecycle management of a diverse fleet.
  • Developing, evaluating, and implementing policies, procedures, standards, goals, objectives and developing budgets for the Fleet Management group and is an active participant in the departmental business plan annually.
  • Leading the Fleet Maintenance organization through transition to zero emissions vehicles.
  • Providing recommendations on types of vehicles purchased. Providing information on infrastructure needs to support zero emissions vehicles. Providing for personnel development to support zero emissions vehicle maintenance.
  • Developing internal and outsourced staffing and systems to provide for the preventive maintenance and shop repair of all airport vehicles.
  • Managing supervisory and technical staff involved in the maintenance and repair of board vehicles.
  • Consulting with key user departments to identify fleet requirements and develop appropriate maintenance best practices to ensure that board vehicles are cost effectively and sustainably maintained.
  • Developing and administering contract maintenance agreements for affected vehicles.
  • Developing, implementing, and administering a fleet maintenance safety program to include training that ensures operational and shop safety.
  • Supervising and managing fleet maintenance staff by establishing performance standards, completing employee performance evaluations, administering the Board's Human Resource policies and procedures, providing staff training and development, and recruiting qualified personnel.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, management, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in fleet maintenance and planning.
  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include:

  • Politically astute with the ability to build productive relationships with stakeholders and customer departments and accept ambiguity and contradiction as a natural part of the working environment.
  • Knowledgeable of the principles of fleet administration and personnel management.
  • Capable of managing staff and providing leadership to provide a clear understanding of the department's core goals through regular and consistent communication.
  • Broad, extensive and progressively responsible administrative experience in fleet management with responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing fleet asset management (specifying, acquisition, maintenance, repair, disposal, and replacement).
  • Experience in public administration and knowledge of the governmental procurement process.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, finance, and management information systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and standards as they pertain to fleet operations and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of zero emissions vehicles.
  • Knowledge of computer applications related to departmental management.
  • Experience developing and making internal presentations.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of maintenance planning and scheduling programs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage a fleet maintenance program.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, and to maintain harmonious internal and external relationships at all levels.

Special requirements include:

  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport's Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport's Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
  • This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport's Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.

  • Experience transitioning and managing a zero emissions vehicle fleet maintenance department
