Forensic Fire Investigator

Full Time | Hybrid Field Based Role

A confidential consulting firm is seeking a Forensic Fire Investigator to conduct origin and cause investigations across residential, commercial, vehicle, and industrial losses. This role combines hands on scene investigation with technical analysis and litigation support, serving insurance carriers and legal clients throughout the region.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on site fire and explosion investigations across a range of property types
• Determine origin and cause through burn pattern analysis, evidence evaluation, and system component review
• Collect, document, and preserve physical evidence while maintaining proper chain of custody
• Prepare detailed written reports outlining findings, conclusions, and supporting analysis
• Provide technical support for subrogation and litigation matters
• Conduct code compliance research including electrical, gas, fire, and building codes
• Manage assignments independently with general supervision
• Support client relationships and continuing education initiatives

Qualifications

• IAAI CFI preferred, or NAFI CFEI with ability to obtain IAAI certification
• 5+ years of fire investigation experience
• Experience forming independent origin and cause opinions
• Strong analytical and report writing ability
• Comfortable providing deposition or trial testimony
• Background in fire service, fire marshal investigation, or law enforcement investigation considered
• Ability to work independently in both field and consulting environments

Working Conditions

• Combination of office reporting and field investigation
• Up to 50 percent local travel with some overnight assignments possible
• Physically active role including ladder work, debris movement, and use of respirator equipment
