Position Overview
The English Teacher will provide rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in English Language Arts while fostering a supportive and engaging classroom environment. The ideal candidate will be committed to strengthening literacy across disciplines and implementing instructional strategies that promote student ownership of learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
- Incorporate evidence-based instructional strategies, including writing-to-learn, collaborative learning, inquiry-based instruction, and explicit vocabulary development
- Use formative assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth
- Foster critical thinking, reading comprehension, and strong written and verbal communication skills
- Create a positive, structured classroom environment that promotes high expectations and mutual respect
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) to analyze data, plan instruction, and refine practices
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- Support school initiatives that promote student engagement and academic progress
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or related field
- Valid North Carolina teaching license (or eligibility for licensure) in English Language Arts
- Strong knowledge of literacy instruction and secondary ELA standards
- Commitment to continuous professional growth
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and families
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching high school English
- Knowledge of AVID instructional strategies and WICOR methodologies
- Experience integrating technology to enhance student learning
- Demonstrated success in increasing student achievement
