The EHS Coordinator will lead all compliance related to environmental, health, and safety standards set by the company, regulatory agencies, or state or local government authorities. This person will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs to ensure a secure, compliant, and safe manufacturing environment. The role focuses on mitigating and minimizing workplace risks, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering a proactive safety culture through data-driven analysis and hands-on training. This position does not have direct reports and is expected to both ‘lead and do’ EHS tasks with direct local ownership and a ‘hands-on’ approach. The position reports to the Plant Manager for the assigned USA Wood Door location.

Key Accountabilities:

Environmental Compliance Systems (30%)

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of environmental compliance statutes, laws, regulations, and best practices in manufacturing.
  • Manage all EPA permitting and compliance matters related to the operation. Permits may include air emissions, storm water, hazardous waste, spill prevention, and industrial hygiene.
  • Conduct regular environmental audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues at the facility, suggesting and implementing corrective actions with plant leadership as needed.
  • Own and maintain library of environmental and safety documents, tools, assessments, policies, and permits.

Health and Safety Compliance (50%)

  • Develop, implement, and manage safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Create, implement, and proctor safety training across departments or locations on a routine basis in compliance with company or regulatory requirements.
  • Complete job safety analysis (JSA) and job hazard analysis (JHA) to routinely observe and review work performed in the plant for health and safety improvement opportunities.
  • Certify as a First Responder and support the First Responder Program including recruitment of responders, training, equipment, supplies, and documentation.
  • Understand and comply with all safety programs, including lock-out/tag-out, confined space, PPE, hearing conservation, and forklift safety.
  • Ensure an Emergency Action Plan is accurate, published, and trained on for the location(s) assigned.
  • Monitor and coordinate employee mobile equipment licenses and testing (forklift operation, CDL, etc.).
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) file library and ensure it is accurate and accessible to employees.
  • Manage library of Toolbox Talks (TBT) and ensure department leaders are routinely engaging in TBT topics and acquiring employee sign off and acknowledgement of understanding.

Risk Mitigation and Management (10%)

  • Track and analyze metrics such as TRIR, DART, Near Misses, LTR, RWR, and ORR.
  • Coordinate with insurance providers to document risk mitigation and ensure compliance with broker’s suggested best practices to de-risk and lower premiums.
  • Complete and document routine EHS audits to proactively implement improvements, changes, and additions to programs.
  • Ensure timely filing of all required permits, renewals, licenses, and certifications within EHS.

Standard Operating Processes & Improvements (10%):

  • Assist in maintaining a standardized catalogue of work instructions for all major, repetitive, or continuous plant operations. This includes production machines, handling processes, packaging processes, and other operational tasks.
  • Maintain all controlled documents with document and revision numbers on the 1USAWD templates.
  • Conduct annual reviews with stakeholders for continuous improvement of Work Instructions.
  • Utilize Voice of Customer and Voice of Employee feedback to enhance EHS effectiveness.
  • Produce periodical EHS summary reports for leadership.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EHS Field such as environmental science or occupational safety strongly preferred, or equivalent subject matter skills based on experience.
  • OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Certifications required.
  • ASP, CSP Certifications in Safety preferred.
  • Proficiency in writing, speaking, and reading in the English language required.

Technical Knowledge, Skills, or Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the EHS field within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in CNC machining, woodworking, and/or metal working environments.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance but minimal direct supervision.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and communicate root cause analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of varying shifts (early AM, later PM) as needed.
  • Moderate to advanced skillset in Microsoft office – Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong acumen in developing standardized systems and creating accountability to them.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis such as 8D, CAR, 5 Whys.
  • Passion for employee engagement and a hands-on leadership style for EHS activities

**Job Location: **On-Site at a plant location; 100% In-Office – no remote, no hybrid option.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $65,000-$80,000 annually, based on experience, qualifications, and relevant skills. This position may also be eligible for an annual bonus and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and vacation time.
